CALL TO ACTION
Federal Legislation Proposed to Allow Medicare Reimbursement for
SLP & Audiology Telehealth Services
FLASHA members are urged to contact your Representative in Washington, D.C. in support of H.R. 2948, The Medicare Telehealth Parity Act of 2015. Please request that your Federal representative co-sponsor this legislation aimed atproviding Medicare reimbursement for audiologists and speech-language pathologists for services provided through telepractice.
Medical Telepractice and Telepractice by SLPs is occurring now in Florida. Our Florida SLP & AUD Practice Board has been silent on the issue since telepractice is not specifically listed in our Practice Act; therefore, the board cannot make rules and regulate SLP & AUDs telepractice. As we heard in May, there continues to be interest from Members of the Florida SLP and AUD Boards of Medicine to make changes to our practice act, but until that time, telepractice is not prohibited or regulated in Florida.
We need to address the Federal issue today by making these calls.
Please be assured that your FLASHA Executive Board is also working at the State Level to ensure our professions are protected.
Dr. Donna Polelle, CCC-SLP
Chair, FLASHA Committee on Telepractice
Help protect our professions- tell friends and colleagues to to join FLASHA
We need you to help PROTECT OUR PROFESSIONS in the state of Florida! Please encourage friends and colleagues who are not members of FLASHA to join NOW.
Let them know that 2015-2016 will be a critical year for all speech-language pathologists and audiologists in the state of Florida. WE THEIR HELP to retain our lobbyist in Tallahassee. Without FLASHA and its lobbying efforts, our fees, our rules and regulations, and our distinctive billing codes could be compromised. Our professional careers will be impacted and FLASHA is here to make sure that our interests are safe guarded.
Lobbying efforts will be directed specifically at: music therapy use of our SLP and Audiology codes; school caseload/workload and service delivery issues across the state; inclusion of our professions in the Telehealth Bill; working with the FL Board of Speech-Pathology and Audiology to write the rules for telehealth practice when the need arises; and inclusion in meetings that include AHCA, health insurance companies and third party administrators involved with the Florida Medicaid program.
Our ability to practice the way we, as professionals, consider appropriate is vulnerable without FLASHA. Please take advantage of our referral program-$15.00 discount per referral towards your next year’s membership; up to 5 discount coupons a year for a total discount of $75.00.
SPREAD THE WORD and tell your friends and colleagues that they need to become part of FLASHA NOW at www.flasha.org.
